THE 101st edition of the Harare Agricultural Show came to an end yesterday with more than 70 000 people entering the gates on the last day. This was the same figure recorded on the closing day last year. This year’s show — officially opened by President Mugabe on Friday — saw the number of exhibitors increase from 750 last year to more than 1 000.

Harare Agricultural Society pubic relations manager Ms Sibonginkosi Muteyiwa said more than 300 farmers showcased their produce, an indication newly-resettled farmers had realised the benefits of participating at the exhibition.

She said foreign exhibitors also turned up in numbers.
Among them were the Chinese, Iranians, Congolese and South Africans.

Ms Muteyiwa said a wide range of entertainment drew large numbers.
“A total of 23 600 people entered the gates on Wednesday this year compared to 14 650 who came on the same day last year,’’ she said.
