TWO Mozambican Retired Army Generals Tobias Dai and Joaquim Munhepe yesterday visited Vice President Joice Mujuru to pay their condolences following the death of her husband Retired General Solomon Mujuru.

Leader of the delegation Rtd Gen Dai, who is also the Mozambican Member of Parliament Deputy Chief Whip, Frelimo bench, said Mozambicans especially from his party learnt with disbelief about the death of Gen Mujuru. He said they worked with Gen Mujuru for a long time and his exceptional role in the liberation of Zimbabwe would be remembered.

"We heard about Rtd Gen Mujuru's death in Mozambique. He was our colleague, our Cde. It was difficult for us to accept but with time we appreciated that it has happened and there was nothing we can do.

"Because of the work that we have come to do here we find it befitting that we should come here to pay our condolences. Our relationship is very strong dating back to the liberation struggle.

"We have worked together on several issues and we will continue to remember Rtd Gen Mujuru of his roles because he was one of us," he said.

Rtd Gen Munhepe urged VP Mujuru to remain resolute as a mother and leader in her duties.

"Yes its painful but you should move forward as a leader and mother. Us in Frelimo, we will continue to remember him (Gen Mujuru). We want to change the pain we are feeling to strengthen relations between our two countries," he said.

The two countries, Rtd Gen Munhepe said, should continue to work together all times to cement the already existing warm relations between them. VP Mujuru said she was humbled by the gesture shown by the Mozambican Generals.

"I heard that you arrived yesterday and you wanted to pay your condolences. Because of the longstanding relations between Zimbabwe and Mozambique and the friendship between you and Gen Mujuru surely I felt that you are his relatives who have come to console us," she said.

VP Mujuru said Zimbabwe and Mozambique were the same family given the two countries' historical background.

"If we tell some people that Zimbabwe and Mozambique are one family joined by the liberation struggle they take it for granted.

"This gesture shows that we are one people and we have fought for the same cause - independence. Loss of one Cde in the two countries is just the same," she said.

VP Mujuru said since most of the liberation heroes were fast passing away, it was important for the remaining heroes in the region to remain united.

She said it was important to pass the history of the liberation struggle to the younger generations.

"We should continue to educate our children that the independence that we are cherishing today came through blood letting. We have shared the same trenches and everything during the liberation struggle and people should know that," she said.

The Mozambican delegation is in the country to gather views of its people resident in Zimbabwe on what they want included in the Frelimo's manifesto for the 10th congress to be held next year.

The delegation was accompanied to VP Mujuru's Chisipite residence by the Zanu-PF national commissar Cde Webster Shamu.
