THE MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) has resolved to find a successor to its party president, Rupiah Banda. This was contained in a statement after a caucus composed of Lusaka-based NEC members to discuss the top leadership of the party among others.

"The NEC realised the need to find the successor to his Excellency the President, Mr Rupiah Bwezani Banda who is going into retirement and directed that applications should be invited from bonafide members who are in good standing with the party to indicate their intensions of wanting to be elected as acting president of the party at its next sitting," Major Kachingwe stated.

And Major Kachingwe also confirmed an alliance with the UPND in which MMD had left the Magoye seat to their partners to contest while they would contest in Nakonde.

On Chongwe, Major Kachingwe said MMD was still scrutinising the possibility of participating in Chongwe in view of the intimidation that is taking place in the area.
