MKOBA MP Amos Chibaya (MDC-T) has been arrested on public violence charges following a bar brawl last Saturday. Chibaya and youth activist Livingstone Chiminya were arrested after turning up at Gweru Central Police Station on Sunday to report damage to an MDC-T vehicle which was stoned during clashes with Zanu PF supporters.

Midlands police spokesman Inspector Patrick Chademana said on Monday: “I can confirm that Chibaya and Chiminya were arrested on Sunday on public violence charges. They will appear in court soon.”

Chibaya, speaking before his arrest, said that MDC-T supporters returning from a rally in Mberengwa had stopped at a bar in Guinea Fowl, along the Gweru-Shurugwi road.

The bar was playing a song called ‘Nyatsoteerera Kutonga’ by the pro-Zanu PF Mbare Chimurenga band.

“They could not communicate well with the bar lady because of the loud noise, and when they asked her to reduce the volume, that is when angry Zanu PF youths stoned our Nissan truck, damaging it in the process,” Chibaya said.

"I was driving in a different car and when I arrived at the scene the car had already been damaged.”
