Libongani commits to ending corruption in police

CORRUPTION is a dirty game that stifles development, says Deputy Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani. During an annual ball for Lusaka Division superior officers on Friday, Libongani said as the first female Deputy Inspector General of Police, she would ensure that officers were content with their wages to avoid corruption.

"Corruption should not even be mentioned because it's a dirty game and stifles development. In improving our welfare each officer will receive two pairs of uniforms every year and very soon we will buy suits for our prosecutors and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)," she said.

Libongani also said the Zambia Police appreciated President Michael Sata's ascendance to power as it had enhanced professionalism in the service.

She said within three months of the Patriotic Front (PF) government, President Sata had upgraded the entire establishment.

During the commissioning parade for officer cadets in Kabwe on Friday, President Sata said female officers were hardworking and less compromised compared to men.

President Sata appointed Libongani as the first female Deputy Inspector General thereby abolishing the position of commissioner of police.

Libongani said President Sata had proved that he was a leader who believed in and upheld gender equality.

"Provinces are now headed by commissioners out of which seven are women and a woman is now commissioner of DEC (Drug Enforcement Commissioner)," said Libongani.
