POLICE yesterday picked up William Banda and eight other party officials for alleged unlawful assembly.

Lusaka Province police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed that Banda, who is Lusaka Province MMD chairperson and eight others were warned and cautioned for unlawful assembly. She said the nine were picked up from Woodlands suburb around 16:00 hours yesterday.

"Mr. Banda was in the company of 20 people at a certain restaurant holding a meeting without police notification," commissioner Katanga said.

"They are at Lusaka Central police station where they have been warned and cautioned. After the warn and caution, they will be released and will come back next week. That is when other details will follow."

According to police sources, Banda and his colleagues were picked up from Twin Palm area in Lusaka's Woodlands suburb where they were allegedly having a meeting, which the law enforcement agencies claim was meant to incite the public against the PF government.

"They are suspected to have been inciting people against the government that it has not delivered on its 90-day development promise," the source said.

"They are at Lusaka Central Police station as we are speaking and have been charged with unlawful assembly."

When contacted, Banda could neither confirm nor deny.

"Hehehe! You are trying to confirm? They will be arresting us daily," said Banda, promising to call back later.

However, repeated efforts to call Banda again proved futile as he was cutting the call.

During his campaigns President Michael Sata had promised to undertake and complete some projects within 90 days once elected into power.

However, some of the people feel the President has not honoured some of his promises.

But President Sata has called for patience and time.
