PRESIDENT Michael Sata's administration should be seen fighting tribalism which has started affecting the quality of governance in the country, says Eliot Kamwendo.

In an interview, Kamwendo, an expert in good governance, peace-building and conflict resolution, said it would be difficult for President Sata to implement his party's manifesto if he does not work towards uniting all Zambians regardless of their ethnic backgrounds.

Kamwendo said the President Sata should draw inspiration from the first Republican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda who managed to unite all the tribes of Zambia through the manner he executed his duties.

"The slogan of ‘One Zambia One Nation' should not die. Today we are seeing people questioning presidential appointments based on tribe and some people like in North Western Province have vowed not to accept some government officials from another province. That's very dangerous and it should not be tolerated but on the other hand, President Sata should be sensitive with the manner he is making appointments. Zambians expect these appointments to be more encompassing," Kamwendo said.

Kamwendo said Zambians were interested in seeing the benefits of change they voted for hence the need for politicians and everyone to support the government by offering criticism where it was due and to help unite the country without discrimination.
