ZAMBIANS should support President Michael Sata's vision to fight corruption because it is meant to protect public resources from being abused by selfish public officers, according to an MMD member in Mazabuka.

Maxwell Mwiinga, a losing MMD candidate for Mazabuka Central, said the President should be praised for constituting a powerful team of women and men with a vigour and track record to head critical public institutions mandate to fight corruption.

Mwiinga said claims of retribution and political witch-hunt by those being pursued by investigating security wings should be dismissed as they were meant to frustrate the fight against corruption.

He said the recent appointment of Mutembo Nchito as Director of Public Prosecutions by President Sata deserved to be commended.

"The appointment of Nchito is good and welcome because the country needs such people with integrity to help fulfil the vision of President Sata in the fight against corruption," Mwiinga said.

He said President Sata had now proved to Zambians that his campaign promise to root out corruption was not empty but real.

Mwiinga said those criticising the government should wait for its full mandate instead of taking advantage of the 90 days period which was merely a campaign strategy.

He said it was gratifying to note that the government had put in place all it needed to embark on serious developmental programmes.

Mwiinga urged opposition political parties to engage in constructive criticism and help the government in delivering the much-needed development to disadvantaged societies.
