PRESIDENT Michael Sata yesterday warned government and party officials not to undermine and frustrate his appointments and actions. And President Sata has withdrawn his appointment of Paxton Wilombe as Mpulungu district commissioner. This is according to a statement by Northern Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba.

"His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Michael Sata, has with immediate effect, withdrawn the appointment of Mr. Paxton Paul Mwenda Wilombe as newly- appointed district commissioner for Mpulungu. The President has announced that Mr Wilombe will be taken in the Foreign Service," Mwamba stated.

"President Michael Sata has also withdrawn the appointment of the current DC, Mr Mande Chapewa who was appointed on 14th November, 2011.

The President has also ordered that the office of the District Commissioner in Mpulungu will remain closed until further notice."

According to Mwamba, President Sata said he would not tolerate any attempts to undermine and frustrate his appointments and actions.

He stated that the head of state said he had responded to concerns by some people in Mpulungu district that were against the appointment of Wilombe.

President Sata said he was concerned about the behaviour of some people in Mpulungu who had opted to be intolerant towards other tribes, as some people in Southern Province had shown.

President Sata said that although Wilombe originated from Mbala, he had greatly contributed to the party and that he was capable of serving the people of Mpulungu.

Following Wilombe's appointment as district commissioner for Mpulungu, some PF members in Mpulungu staged a demonstration on Thursday saying Mpulungu would not be led by a party member from Mbala.
