CHIEF Musungwa of Itezhi-tezhi has challenged the MMD to support the restoration of the abuse of office clause in order to clear the perception of it being a corrupt political grouping. In an interview, chief Musungwa said MMD has suffered a serious tag of a being a corrupt party.

"This is their only opportunity they have to clear the name of the party from being corrupt and probably Zambians will change their perception of the party," advised chief Musungwa.

The Patriotic Front government in fulfilling its election promise has tabled restoration of the abuse of office Clause which was removed from the Anti-Corruption Commission Act by the Rupiah Banda government.

Chief Musungwa also urged UPND members of parliament to accept and support the restoration of the abuse of office clause into - he Anti-Corruption Act.

He said failure by the UPND to support the bill currently before Parliament would be a betrayal of the trust and confidence that voters bestowed on its members of parliament.

He said that UPND and MMD members of parliament should put aside their party egos and support the restoration of the clause as it was aimed at protecting public resources from looting by public officers.

He said UPND and its parliamentary candidates have now been put on a test and its relevance in politics will be determined by the amount of support they will give to the bill.

Chief Musungwa said traditional rulers were disappointed with the UPND for engaging in blind counter productive debates in Parliament.

He said government's decision to restore the clause deserved commendation and support by all well- meaning Zambians who understand the evils of corruption.

And Maxwell Mwiinga, MMD losing candidate for Mazabuka Central seat, said the PF government deserved commendation and support for fulfilling one of the key election campaign promises - to restore the clause.

Mwiinga said he had been following with keen interest how Republican President Michael Sata had been addressing election promises.

He said Zambians were ready to work with the PF government in order to foster development.
