Zanu-PF has completed elections for grassroots structures with focus shifting to re-structuring of district co-ordinating committees. The completion of DCC elections will see provinces choosing their leadership.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said the restructuring was designed to rejuvenate the party ahead of general elections set for this year. President Mugabe has indicated that general elections will be held this year with or without a new Constitution.

“We have completed cell, branch and district elections in most parts of the country. I have checked with the commissariat department and they confirmed that DCC elections have since been held in Mashonaland Central province.

“Midlands province will also hold DCC elections before the end of the month and other provinces will follow. After completing DCCs, we will then move to provincial elections,” he said.

Cde Gumbo indicated last month that DCC structures were of paramount importance to the party. Zanu-PF conducts DCC elections after every two years.

The party was supposed to hold the elections last year but was postponed due to other pressing issues.

As the party gears up for elections, Cde Gumbo said, Zanu-PF will focus on people-oriented policies.

He said the party had resolved to dwell on developmental issues, particularly economic empowerment of ordinary people.

Cde Gumbo said Zanu-PF was prioritising economic turnaround programmes after a decade of sanctions induced economic meltdown.

He said there was need to recapitalise the manufacturing sector and promote investment.

Cde Gumbo said there should be a win-win situation between investors and the country through indigenisation.

To ensure sustainable development, Cde Gumbo said, there should be unity of purpose among Zimbabweans.
