A PATRIOTIC Front member in Mazabuka has died after 'falling' from a moving vehicle on the Mazabuka-Kafue highway. The accident happened yesterday morning about nine kilometres from Mazabuka. PF Mazabuka district secretary Moses Ngosa said Phiri Mumba died on the way to hospital.

He explained that Mumba with other PF members, led by their district youth chairperson Bruce Nkumbitwa who was driving the vehicle, were travelling to Lusaka to pick up the body of another PF member who died at University Teaching Hospital when the incident occurred.

Chikankata district commissioner Sylvester Simayaba described Mumba's death as saddening and disheartening particularly that Mumba had volunteered to go and pick up the body of his colleague who died in Lusaka after being attacked by thugs in Mazabuka.

Simayaba said Mumba allegedly jumped off the fast moving vehicle after dozing off.

According to Simayaba, preliminary investigations established that Mumba had a hangover and was reportedly sleeping as the vehicle was moving but he suddenly jumped off the van.
