Cuba’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Cde Enrique Antonio Prieto Lopez, has commended the cordial relations that exist between the two countries.
Speaking at a function to celebrate 32 years of diplomatic relations between Harare and Havana in the capital yesterday, Ambassador Lopez expressed confidence that continued co-operation between the two countries will see them successfully fight the illegal Western economic sanctions that they have both been slapped with.
“This is an occasion to celebrate the close ties between the two countries. Our relations, which date back to the days of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, have also seen us unite in the fight against illegal sanctions imposed on both our countries,” he said.
Ambassador Lopez said that his country was among the first to establish diplomatic relations with Zimbabwe after setting up an embassy in Harare two days after independence. There are more than 100 Cuban professionals working in the country while more than 3 000 Zimbabwean professionals have so far been trained in the Caribbean country.
