VETERAN politician Vernon Mwaanga says MMD members must embrace the candidate that will be elected president at the party's convention scheduled for Friday. Mwaanga said there were seven candidates in the race, all capable of being elected president but that in the final analysis, only one would emerge winner.

"One of them will win and he is to be supported by all of us. That's how democracy works," Mwaanga who is a National Executive Committee (NEC) member said. "What is important is that the process will have to be fair and free and credible."

He said there was nothing new about the concept of provincial conferences, which were being held for the first time.

"…Because even when elections were being held at Mulungushi Rock of Authority, delegates were voting according to the provinces they come from. Even accommodation is arranged in such a way that each province stays on its own," he said.

"It's wider and democratic anyway because the voting will be done at the same time in all the provincial centres and results will be announced on the same day."

Mwaanga said although it was common for people to cry foul even when the process was transparent, those whom the elections will not go in their favour must accept and live by the outcome.
