PATRIOTIC Front deputy national chairperson Elizabeth Phiri has appealed to the people of Chama to give the ruling party a mandate to bring their problems to a permanent end.

In an interview yesterday, Phiri, the leader of a PF team which was on a party organisation tour of all the 150 constituencies, said the MMD government failed to develop Chama.

She said her team that had just finished a tour of the district had observed that the MMD government neglected the area.

"Our friends have been in power for 20 years and we have assessed their so-called development. The development we have seen in Chama North is that they (MMD) have given the area bad roads and they have cut it off from any district. Muchinga Province is completely cut off from other provinces, for one to go to Chama, you have to go through Eastern Province," Phiri said.

She wondered why MMD could still think of fielding a candidate in Chama North when it did not deliver development to the area.

"If MMD didn't bring development in 20 years, what development are they going to bring while they are in opposition? The only development that MMD can claim is bringing poverty to the people of Chama," Phiri said.

She said the PF government would connect Chama to other provinces through good road network.

Phiri said the PF government had just been in power for about six months and that it could not be judged on that basis.

She said a lot of people from the opposition defected to the PF during a meeting that she addressed in Chama on Tuesday.

About 12 aspirants have applied for adoption in the Chama North parliamentary by-election on the PF ticket.

Among those that have applied is the immediate past MMD member of parliament Darious Mumba whose election was recently nullified by the Lusaka High Court.
