MP Chisanga in trouble over insults against Sata

POLICE in Mkushi have opened a docket against Mkushi South MMD member of parliament Sydney Chisanga for allegedly insulting the President. Central Province commissioner of police Dr Solomon Jere confirmed the development in an interview on Monday.

"Yes, it's true that the MP for Mkushi South, Mr Chisanga, has been reported by PF officials in the constituency for allegedly insulting the President. Only three statements from three individuals are remaining to be taken," explained Dr Jere.

"But a docket has already been opened against Mr Chisanga and after taking those statements, and they are watertight, we shall move in."

But when contacted for a comment, Chisanga refuted the allegations, saying they were coming from individuals that want to tarnish his name.

"That's not true. How can I insult the President?' Chisanga asked. "I'm an elected member of parliament, a lawmaker and I cannot be breaking the law. I'm an elected MP and the President is an elected President, elected by the people of Zambia. Therefore, he is the President for all Zambians. I know those accusations are coming from small individuals like the PF losing candidate Davies Chisopa. They are trying to tarnish my name. They are trying to frustrate me."

Chisanga claimed that he was related to President Sata and Chisopa should not be surprised that in 2016 he would be in the PF.

"Let me tell Mr Chisopa, through you, that the President is my uncle. Let Chisopa ask bene GBM defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba, let him ask ba Chishimba Kambwili. They will tell these individuals who I am. I have a lot of friends and relatives in the MMD. So by tarnishing my name or frustrating Chisanga, Chisopa is not doing himself any good. Let him just wait for 2016. He doesn't know maybe in 2016 laughs . . . let him know that in 2016, I might be in PF."

And Chisopa advised Chisanga to offer constructive criticism to the PF government instead of issuing derogatory statements against President Sata.

Chisopa explained that the PF in Mkushi South Constituency reported Chisanga to police for issuing derogatory statements against the President.

Chisopa explained that the PF leadership in the area was aware that Chisanga was going round polling stations in the constituency speaking ill of President Sata.

"The PF leadership in Mkushi South Constituency has been witnessing the meetings that Sydney Chisanga has been holding in polling stations where he has been issuing statements, talking ill about President Michael Sata. The PF in Mkushi South Constituency is warning area MMD member of parliament Sydney Chisanga against issuing derogatory statements against President Michael Sata," explained Chisopa.

"He has been going round while distributing assorted goods, telling people that the President is unwell, he is not in good health and so on. He has been insulting the Head of State. I would advise my brother Sydney Chisanga to concentrate on addressing challenges facing the people of Mkushi South Constituency as area member of parliament. This is harvesting time and farmers would want to know how the crop marketing season will go . . . he needs to explain these issues to the people in his constituency. He should be telling people how he would engage government in bringing the much-needed development in the area than talking ill of the President. Let him offer constructive criticism to the PF government and offer solutions. Those are the checks and balances we need from the opposition."

He accused the security wings of 'going to sleep' claiming that one of the meetings where Chisanga allegedly issued a derogatory statement was held a few metres away from a police station.
