Minister of Education Dr. John Phiri will be leading a delegation of Zambian officials to attend a summit in Cape Town, South Africa this coming October to deliver a keynote speech and meet with potential foreign investors in the technology and education sectors.

Dr. Phiri will be joining other African Ministers of Education and Technology from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Others will be from Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Mozambique, and Rwanda.

The Summit will represent an opportunity for Dr. Phiri to present his ministry's progress on policies and implementation after one year in office before an international audience.

"We're extraordinarily pleased to have the participation of Dr. Phiri, as Zambia is increasingly seen as a model for its stability, growth, and improvements in education," said John Glassey, the managing director of AfricanBrains, the organizer of the Innovation Africa Summit.

Glassey also noted that investors are eager to meet with the new Zambian minister, as some people felt that the previous MMD government was unresponsive to their interest.

"There is significant interest among foreign investors to become involved in Zambia's education sector. People are excited to begin working with the Patriotic Front government, which will hopefully be more successful than past experience," Glassey said.

The Innovation Africa Summit, scheduled for October 5-7 in Cape Town, is co-sponsored by the niversity of the Western Cape, and will also feature participation by representatives of global technology companies, such as Huawei, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, and others.
