LAW Association of Zambia president James Banda has advised President Michael Sata not to waste time on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema. Commenting on police's search of UPND offices in Lusaka on Tuesday for seditious material allegedly being circulated by the opposition party, Banda said Hakainde should not be an issue for the government and President Sata.

"HH shouldn't be an issue for the President and this government. They should just work at delivering to the people of Zambia those things which they promised during the campaigns. The PF should not behave in the same way the MMD did of trying to intimidate and harass political opponents because we have noted a pattern of harassment now," he said when asked to give LAZ's position following the police's search of UPND offices.
"It's a pattern that is growing of harassment of opponents of PF and police are basically not acting professionally and LAZ is totally against that. This is not time to hammer political opponents."

He said the police must begin to act professionally and refuse to be used in political battles.

Asked to comment on the defective search warrant served on the UPND on Monday evening by police, Banda said that was a signal that police officers who were sent to conduct the search were against the decision.

"From what I know, the police obviously went with a defective warrant because they did not believe in what they were doing. They were being pushed by somebody else to do something which they believed was wrong, so for them, they didn't care whether the warrant was okay or defective," he said.

And Banda said Zambians were thirsty for development in all sectors and advised President Sata to divert his attention to alleviating poverty, creating jobs and improving key infrastructure in the country.

"As LAZ, we feel the government should not take people for granted but must deliver promises made during the campaigns. They (government) shouldn't go the route the MMD took of harassing opponents at the expense of delivering development to the people," advised Banda.
