THE PF is not at war with opposition parties, says party national chairperson Inonge Wina.

Commenting on MMD president Nevers Mumba's statement that his party will use opposition members of parliament to shoot down the PF's 2013 budget to punish President Michael Sata for 'poaching' MMD lawmakers into the PF government, Wina said the PF would continue working with the opposition to develop the country.

"We are here to work with the opposition. As a ruling party, we welcome the opposition. We welcome the contribution that the opposition makes to the governance of our country. This is not a war. We are not in a war with the opposition parties. We are working together in unity to develop our country," she said.

"Whether some people are in the opposition and some are in the ruling party, the message is unity of purpose. All of us should give our intellect, our skills, our knowledge to develop our country. If our country is developed all of us will be proud as Zambians."

Wina said the PF had no intentions of killing the opposition in the country.

"We do welcome the opposition, it gives us competition. It makes us not to be complacent about the way we govern the people of this country," she said, "because mistakes in our governance style will always be detected by the opposition. We think the opposition has a bigger role to play in a democratic dispensation like what we have in our country."

Wina accused Mumba of creating unnecessary political tension in the country by insinuating that President Michael Sata had "stubbornly" been poaching desperate MMD members of parliament for "basic jobs" of deputy minister.

"And using such flimsy reasons, I think it is extremely unfair to the government in power," she said. "I do not think as a party now controlling the reigns of governance, we shall allow this to prevail. If Mr Mumba wants to bring disorder, just for the sake of creating an atmosphere of conflict in the nation, I don't think the Zambian people should allow him to do that."

Wina also accused Mumba of being insincere and unpatriotic.

"It is extremely unfortunate for a leader of such a large political party to express those sentiments regarding the national budget. There is no way a national budget can be stopped simply because some members of MMD have been incorporated into the governance system of the country.

I think that is lack of patriotism. If the budget can be shot down, what will happen to the programmes and the many projects that government intends to put in place? What will happen to the poor people in some parts of our country?" asked Wina.
