THE PF is not desperate for new members, says party secretary general Wynter Kabimba. In an interview, Kabimba, who is also justice minister, said the party received a number of new members last year after winning the general elections and was therefore not desperate for more.

"We have enough members now and we are not desperate for new members because we received a lot of new members after winning the elections," Kabimba said.

He, however, said it was not automatic for one to become a member of the Patriotic Front after making a pronouncement as the party had a screening process for new entrants.

"That's why you see that even from the adverts that we run, we said to people, 'complete that form in the paper or send your email'. This does not mean that immediately you complete that form and send it, therefore you have become a PF member, no! You must wait to hear from the Central Committee whether or not your application has been approved," he said.
Kabimba said the party does not accept members on account of their personal pronouncement that they had joined the PF.

"That in itself is not an automatic avenue to get into the party. We have a right of admission that is reserved into the party. So you can actually say, 'I want to join or have joined the PF as a member' and we can tell you 'sorry we do not think that you are a person of good standing and your application is not approved'. That's the system that we have in PF," he said.

Kabimba said the party would make a decision on whether or not those wanting to join PF were in good standing with the party and society.
He said the new applicants would also have to subscribe to the norms, values and traditions of the PF as a political organisation.
