PRESIDENT Michael Sata says Dr Kenneth Kaunda and himself are the only political leaders in Zambia. And President Sata says he will 'straighten' Stephen Masumba whom MMD president Nevers Mumba has described as a "playboy".

Addressing a campaign rally at Kyamwina grounds in Mufumbwe on Saturday to drum up support for PF candidate Masumba in Thursday's by-election, President Sata said Dr Kaunda founded UNIP and formed government just like he had started the PF which was now in power. He said other leaders in opposition had never been councillors, members of parliament or ministers.

And President Sata said he would utilise Masumba once elected member of parliament for Mufumbwe despite the MMD's perception that he was a "playboy".

"This boy (Masumba) they are saying he's childish, yes, he's young but give him to me, I will straighten him for you. Give me this boy on November 8 and when he comes back, he will tell you because I want to utilise him. If you have a child who doesn't work, he will be looking after other people's daughters," he said.

President Sata said the development that was in North Western Province was brought by people that were in government.

"When Mr Peter Matoka was minister, we saw a road from Solwezi to Mwinilunga. When we had ministers and MPs in MMD, we saw this road going to Zambezi, now the whole North Western Province is in the hands of the opposition. You are still using diesel engine for your electricity which is very expensive," he said. "You have a hospital with no drugs, give me this boy, ngamwakana lwenu (if you refuse, it's your fault).

The boy is not asking for any money, he's only asking to liberate Mufumbwe. Mr Masumba, when you win see houses for the police, messengers and chiefs, let me know and I will show you how to do it."

And President Sata described Mumba as "a failed tele-evangelist who killed his church by pocketing offertory from the poor".

"I am here and I have not stolen a penny for anybody…You better ask Nevers Mumba why I fired him as our High Commissioner to Canada. Mr Nevers Mumba has never been a councillor, member of parliament or minister. When he formed a church and Christians donated money, he pocketed the money and he killed the church," he said amid ululations from the slogan chanting crowd.

"Mr Mumba formed 'Zambia Shall Be Saved' (a Christian movement) when you poor people sold kandolo (sweet potatoes) and gave the money to that movement, Zambia Shall Be Saved, Nevers Mumba pocketed the money and killed the party."

President Sata caused laughter when he said Mumba was not proud of himself because he constantly shaved his grey hair to hide his age.
He said Mumba was a jealous person who used any opportunity to advance his personal causes.

The head of state's comments followed the MMD campaign team's showing of their supporters a picture of Masumba dancing with Congolese rhumba musician Fally Ipupa's dancing queen.

But Mumba said President Sata's political career was failing because of blatant lies that he tells people about him at political rallies.
Speaking at a press briefing at First Inns Lodge in Mufumbwe yesterday, Mumba said he had "never seen in his life a President who lies as much as President Sata does".

"I have proposed that we change the President's name from being Michael Chilufya Sata to Michael Bubela Sata (bubela; Kaonde for lies). The man came here and said a lot of things about me. This election is not about Mr Sata and me. This election is about the false promises that Mr Sata made to the Zambian people including North Western Province. He has to defend his lies," he said.

"This is very unfortunate for Zambians because the people want to believe everything the president says. If the president out of 10 things, nine are lies, then it is very unfortunate for the Zambian people."

Mumba said the MMD leadership was quiet on many accusations because President Sata was trying to thrive on lies to pop-up his failing political career.
Meanwhile, Mumba said the MMD camp was aware that the PF was ferrying about 60 "ruffians" from Ndola to cause havoc in Mufumbwe ahead of the November 8 by-election.

He said the MMD was ready to defend itself.

"I can assure the PF that the party will defend itself well and there is no doubt about it. Our quietness does not mean we are not ready but it confirms how ready we are," said Mumba.

But speaking earlier in an interview, PF campaign manager Jean Kapata who dismissed the reports said it was nonsensical for anybody to think that the PF was in the business of importing violent cadres into Mufumbwe.

She said the PF was a party full of integrity and would never waste time on politics of machinations that were employed by the MMD the time it was in government.

Kapata said the MMD had lost credibility.
