President Mugabe has inspired South Africa’s ruling party the African National Congress (ANC) to embark on an economic revolution and follow in the footsteps of Zimbabwe, an ANC youth stalwart has said.

Delivering a solidarity message on behalf of former liberation movements at the 21st February Movement celebrations at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura yesterday, ANC Youth League national executive Cde Andile Lungisa revealed the ANC made a decision in December to adopt the Strategic Nationalisation programme that is modelled along Zimbabwe’s successful land reform programme and the indegenisation and economic empowerment drive.

“In December last year, we agreed at our meeting to adopt the Strategic Nationalisation agenda.

“This was inspired by President Mugabe and what he has done for the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Cde Lungisa said South Africa whose society is characterised by a large gap between the rich and the poor is seeking to emulate Zimbabwe to reduce social injustices in that country.

“We are saying in South Africa and the whole of Africa, we should emulate Zimbabwe and understand what President Mugabe has done for the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Cde Lungisa who is also the President of the Pan African Youth Union said President Mugabe is a visionary leader who stands as a shining example to all the youths of Africa.

“As youths of this continent we are happy to celebrate the life of a visionary. President Mugabe is a clear example of a man who has his people at heart,” he said.

Representatives of former liberation movements that include, SWAPO of Namibia, Frelimo of Mozambique, the Patriotic Front of Zambia PPRD from DRC, Chama Chama Pinduzi of Tanzania and others.
