THE Council of Churches in Zambia in Eastern Province says every Zambian wants to see development in the country.
Speaking during inter-denomination prayers for peaceful and fair elections at the Reformed Church in Zambia Chipata main congregation on Friday, CCZ chairperson Reverend Sonye Banda said violence could only occur in a place where there was no peace.
Rev Banda said the Church wanted to commit the by-election in prayers so that they were peaceful.
He appealed to all the people to be peaceful in their hearts and extend it to other people.
"Our God is our peace, we serve the God who is our peace and when He rules in our heart, it means there is peace. If I have peace, my wife next to me shall have the peace, my son shall have the peace. So the peace will come from my heart to the house to the neighbour and then it will go into the church," Rev Banda said.
During the event, the church prayed for peace and unity in the nation, the economy, political and government leaders, free and fair elections in the province and other parts of the country.
The church also thanked God for political freedom.
The event was graced by acting deputy permanent secretary Zachariah Luhanga and was also attended by Chipata district commissioner Kalunga Zulu.
Some participating candidates in the forthcoming Chipata Central by-election were also in attendance.
