CHIKONDI Foundation president Bishop John Mambo says the current trend where people set up churches to get rich must be stopped.
Bishop Mambo, who once served as Church of God overseer, says it is wrong for the clergy to continue amassing wealth from their members.
"A true leader is supposed to be content with what they have and as clergy people, ours is to serve and not otherwise. I have seen a bad trend in Zambia where some clergy at getting more rich," he said.
Bishop Mambo said certain clergy were taking God for granted by conducting themselves contrary to what His calling stipulated.
"We are supposed to be ambassadors of God and not otherwise. It is sad that Zambia is slowly experiencing a situation where we have more clergy than Kingdom people," Bishop Mambo said.
He said the church was supposed to be like a hospital where its flock could seek healing at any time.
"I agree that we are taking God for granted in this country. By declaring Zambia as a Christian nation, we signed a covenant which we should follow," said Bishop Mambo.
But Apostle Dan Pule of Dunamis Christian Centre says there is nothing wrong in giving because "givers receive more".
"In Luke chapter 6 versus 38, the scripture says, 'give and it shall be given to you in good measure'," said Apostle Pule.
"I am the biggest giver to my church. I don't get a salary from my church and I invested heavily in the Dunamis Centre as an individual."
