KAFUE member of parliament Obvious Mwaliteta says the massive infrastructure developments going on in different sectors of the country have been made possible by President Michael Sata's good leadership.

During the unveiling of a foundation stone for the construction of Chikupi Day Secondary School in Kafue on Friday, Mwaliteta, who is also Central Province minister, said he was happy to associate himself with a winning political party which had remained committed to fulfilling its promises to the people of Zambia.

"Come 2016, I will not face any difficulties to convince people to vote for the President and myself because I will just point at what we have done as a party in government. Like here in Kafue, my government in less than two years has built the Chiawa bridge, paid NCZ retirees terminal benefits and revamped the plant, gave KTZ (Kafue Textiles of Zambia) formers workers houses, tarred and expanded the Kafue-Lusaka road and improved conditions of service and increased salaries for all civil servants," Mwaliteta said.

"Government has also electrified almost all rural schools in my constituency and very soon, we will start constructing clinics and as Kafue, we have been given 11 health centres.

This is just one of the many secondary schools which the government will build in order to reduce the distance that most pupils, especially in rural areas are subjected to. In short, we have delivered and we shall continue to do that for the betterment of our people of Zambia and people should continue supporting President Michael Sata because our programmes go beyond 2016 and we need to support PF in order for development to continue."

Chikupi, Magoba, Mungu and Kabweza would benefit from the construction of Chikupi Day Secondary School because it would reduce transport and accommodation costs for children in Kafue town.

The Chikupi Day Secondary School project which would cost K34,809,413.61 is expected to be completed in April 2015 and will, among other things, include a computer laboratory, an assembly hall, an administration block, four science laboratories and 24 staff houses. Others are six 1x3 classroom blocks, two 1x2 classroom blocks, football and net ball grounds, a tennis and basket ball court.

"It will also reduce risks of road traffic accidents, early marriages and pregnancies and poor performance due to long distances to secondary schools," Mwaliteta said.

"The government's provision of school infrastructure closer to the community is of great importance to the fulfillments of the right to education. The construction of this secondary school shall not only bring development to the area but will also offer employment opportunities to the local communities as this is the government's fulfillment towards the promise of creating employment for its people."

He also said the government would soon reduce the prices of fertiliser to make it affordable to many people because the commodity was being produced locally in Kafue by the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ).

"Very soon, fertiliser will be bought at nothing because we have now started producing both basal and top dressings fertilisers and this is done just here in Kafue by NCZ unlike in the past where government used to order fertiliser from abroad," said Mwaliteta.

Kafue district commissioner Grace Ngulube said the district had greatly benefitted from the policies of the PF government under President Sata saying a number of developmental projects had been undertaken within the two years the party had been in power.

And Lusaka Province education standards officer Joel Kamoko urged parents to support the new curriculum introduced by the PF government which would see pupils from grades one to four being taught in local languages.
