Zambian firms keen to learn from China

Zambian firms keen to learn from China
By Business Reporter

Several Zambian manufacturing firms have expressed interest in learning the production processes in China’s industries so that they could improve their operations, Zambia-China Business Association vice-chairperson Elias Mpodela has said. Mr Mpondela, whose association is organising a trade mission of Zambian companies and business individuals to China scheduled for early next month, said in an interview in Lusaka that Zambia could benefit from Chinese production processes. He said his association was liasing with the organisers of the exhibition in China so that the entrepreneurs could be given an opportunity to learn the production processes there.

He said Zambian firms and business executives were looking forward to benefit from the trade mission through acquisition of skills and technological transfer which would be applied in operations to improve their businesses. “We are making very concrete arrangements with our colleagues in China to make sure that the benefits of this trade mission and the fair are realised. We want it to yield positive results for the country,” he said.

He revealed that so far 30 Zambian entrepreneurs, mostly from the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, had paid up for the fair in China. Mr Mpondela said most of the entrepreneurs would come from engineering, construction and trading. “It is very encouraging that a lot of entrepreneurs have come along, many of them are from the manufacturing sector. “They want to go and learn the production systems as well as to see the agricultural equipment which they could come and employ in their production processes here at home.” he said.

This is the second time that the Zambia-China Business Association is organising a trade mission for Zambian business enterprises to China.
