FORMER president Frederick Chiluba has thanked the Patriotic Front (PF) leadership for sufficiently organising his welcome ceremony from South Africa. And Chiluba disembarked from his official vehicle and walked for a few meters with jubilant PF members who chanted anti-MMD slogans. Addressing journalists at the Lusaka International Airport on arrival from South Africa, Chiluba - who was accompanied by his wife Regina - expressed gratitude to PF president Michael Sata and other party leaders.

"It's very true, unfortunately politicians are known to suggest that they say a few words but then they go on a long monologue. I will try and resist that. Let me just thank president Michael Sata who is not here, vice-president Guy Scott, national chairman Chitalu Sampa, chairman for transport Machungwa and other senior members of the PF... members of parliament as well as those who have come to welcome me, my wife and our delegation from South Africa," Chiluba said.

"It takes a lot of efforts, consideration and resources to organize any welcome no matter how big or small. This has been sufficiently been so. Am very grateful to president Sata, you may convey my sincere thanks to him. And having said that, we thank our God that he is caring and providing to us. He is indeed our healer and we are grateful."

However, Chiluba refused to take questions from journalists. And Chiluba disembarked from his official vehicle and walked for a few meters with jubilant PF members who were chanted anti-MMD slogans.

Chiluba was also received at his Kabulonga residence by traditional dancers from Kasama Central constituency. The cadres were carrying placards that were denouncing local government minister Sylvia Masebo's decision to remove vendors from the streets. Chiluba has been in South Africa at Johannesburg's Garden City Clinic for treatment for over four weeks.
