Supermarket chain launches SMEs academy

THE Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Mrs Sithembiso Nyoni, on Wednesday launched the Lucky 7 Retail Academy, a scheme aimed at equipping small and medium retailers with the latest business skills and information on modern retailing.

Mrs Nyoni praised Lucky 7 Stores, Jaggers and the Infrastructural Development Bank of Zimbabwe, for coming up with what she described as an "ingenious idea which would be a milestone in developing small and medium-scale retailers."

She said the initiative was expected to transform small retailers from being survivalists to becoming large wholesalers.

"We hope the academy will play a pivotal role in complementing Government’s efforts to help small and medium entrepreneurs grow," she said.

The academy is targeting to train around 300 business persons by the end of May.

"To date, we have trained several retailers in Harare and Bulawayo and we have 21 retailers undergoing training in Mutare.

"Registration is also underway for business persons who would like to be part of another session that we will conduct in May," Lucky 7 Retail Academy instructor, and renowned public speaker, Mr Jonah Mungoshi, said. — New Ziana.
