ZAMBIA Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has urged government to come up with a deliberate policy to compel all mining companies to give priority to local suppliers and contractors. Opening the North Western Province Chamber of Commerce first annual general meeting held in the boma conference hall in Solwezi, ZACCI vice president for the north, Eddie Kapungulya said local companies could only be financially strong if government protected them.

“We at ZACCI place a lot of importance on the chamber movement in the country.

North Western being the new Copperbelt of Zambia places the north Western chamber in a very ideal position to spearhead the development of business in the province,” Kapungulya said.

Kapungulya said the chamber could only influence economic activities in the province with assistance of government.

He also said there should be a deliberate policy to compel mining companies in the district to be members to enhance the financial position of the chamber to enable it function effectively.

This is as excellent as it is obvious. If 40% of the mines turnover goes to costs, it should at least go to Zambian companies.
