STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia managing director Mizinga Melu has said the bank does not expect the continued occurrence of floods in the country to affect its agricultural lending portfolio. And outgoing managing director Tom Aaker has said the bank was impressed with the overseas leadership development programme because it was providing necessary experience to local people.

Speaking on Monday, Melu said Zambia’s economy was moving in a positive direction, especially that the country had continued to be self-reliant in food production and was able to export some food crops in the region.

“However, it is unfortunate that the current farming season has so far been characterised by floods and while we do not expect any unprecedented impairment on the bank’s agric-lending portfolio, we are saddened by the collapse of houses and loss of property as a result of the floods and so far we have made a donation worth K32 million,” she said.

She said the bank was excited to participate in the development of the economy through provision of loans to various sectors in the country.

And Aaker said over 30 Zambians had been groomed to become managers in order to enhance staff development and engagement through acquisition of overseas experiences.

“We continued to provide support to enable our staff to grow by providing training across various disciplines and programmes and I am proud to state that nearly all of core service delivery staff underwent training in one course or another,” said Aaker.
