PATRIOTIC Front president, Michael Sata, is a useless political noisemaker with no intellectual capabilities befitting modern Zambia, opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has charged. And Hichilema charged that Sata is the originator of the concept of using machetes in political campaigns.

Reacting to Sata’s statement that he (Hichilema) will melt after being rejected by the people of Lusaka’s Kanyama Constituency, Hichilema said he sympathised with Sata’s limited understanding of democracy.

Hichilema said in every election only one person had to emerge victorious and that did not spell doom or melting of the losing parties. He said Sata was practicing old politics of the 1940s.

Hichilema said it was unfortunate that Sata had continued to conduct politics of shouting and insults, which he said were of no benefit to the Zambian people.

He said Zambia required an economic manager who would vigorously deal with numerous problems people were facing. He said Sata was nowhere near and not worth his salt.

“Sata is only fit to be a supervisor at a construction of a canal in a rural area and not a president of this country. I think the people of Zambia have come to realise that Sata is the worst old political noisemaker who always speaks nonsense whenever he opens his mouth,” Hichilema said.

He said UPND’s vision for Zambia was far much better than that of Sata.
And Hichilema said if Sata became Republican president, he would not be surprised to see Zambia plunged into a civil war.

He said Sata believed in politics of violence and name-calling, contrary to Zambia’s modern democratic tenets.

“Zambians should not be so forgetful. This old man (Sata) is the one who brought the concept of using pangas and machetes in the Zambian politics. We still remember the Chawama violence where innocent people were injured, including former member of parliament Geoffrey Samukonga. It is Sata who caused that chaos. And with regard to his old age, Sata’s violent behaviour will never change, except that it has worsened now,” he said.

Hichilema claimed that because of his party's “ever growing countrywide support and popularity”, Sata had become vindictive.

Hichilema said he did not believe in politics of noise making and urged Zambians not to be carried away by what he called Sata’s empty rhetoric and vulgar language.

He added that Sata should not compare himself to Senegalese President Abdulai Wade because the two were not comparable.
He said unlike Sata, President Wade was an intellectual with enormous democratic knowledge for economic development.

“The difference is that President Wade is superior and Sata is politically inferior with no knowledge of running this country,” he said.
Hichilema declared that the 2011 general elections would be a tight and different game.

On Friday after Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Colonel Gerry Chanda emerged victorious in the Kanyama by-elections, Sata said President Mwanawasa and Hichilema would melt following their rejection by the people of Kanyama Constituency.

Sata said UPND and MMD could not match PF’s support and popularity and that there was no difference between the two parties in terms of political muscle.

“It is the people of Zambia who choose which party and person to vote for. Hichilema is melting just like Levy Mwanawasa because these two people have no focus and can take Zambia nowhere,” said Sata.
