DUNCAN, Gilbey and Matheson Zambia Limited has appealed to the government to impose a restriction on the importation of spirits to enhance the performance of local distillation industry. In an interview, Duncan, Gilbey and Matheson general manager Manfred Ngweza said the distillation company was this year targeting to increase production for spirits and brands to 2000 cases from the current 800.
“We are hoping the government can impose a restriction on the importation of already made spirits,” Ngweza said.
He said a strong distillation industry would mean creating more jobs locally unlike now when there was too much importation of finished spirits which only promoted jobs outside the country.
Ngweza also said his company would conduct road shows to sensitise the people on the best way to consumer their brands and spirits.
Duncan Gilbey and Matheson is an international distiller and among the brands and spirits it produces include Lavelle brandy, Afrikoko, Old Tree, and Stadium dry gin.
