Local government and housing minister Sylvia Masebo (right) has urged Zambians to develop a habit of having regular medical check-ups. Speaking after she underwent a full medical check-up at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) yesterday, Masebo said prevention was always better and cheaper than cure.

“I underwent a full medical check-up today at UTH ahead of my birthday tomorrow (today),” Masebo said. “This was after I collapsed in Kabwe last week and was admitted to the Mine Hospital there. It is for this reason that I am urging all, especially busy people to take regular medical checks and eat well because it is better to prevent than cure. One of the problems I had is that of bad diet which contributed to my low blood volume in the body.”

Masebo said she would remain forever indebted to the people in Kabwe and first lady Maureen Mwanawasa for the role they played in saving her life.
“I thank the doctors and nurses in Kabwe for their quick action in saving my life,” said Masebo. “I also thank the first lady for everything she did and has continued to do, the provincial, district and council leadership in Kabwe and all the people of Kabwe who showed me such love and care whilst I was in their town,” said Masebo.

When you are rich you can afford a regular medical check up....infact you can get to the front for a medical check...

The cynicism of politicians is truly baffling...or is it the ignorance?

Masebo only decided to undergo the so-called check-up after fainting in Kabwe, had she been regularly checking her health she would have kept her mouth shut. Medical check ups in Zambia are for the filthy fat rich, whose favourite past time is stuffing their bellies.
