South African President Thabo Mbeki is expected to meet President Mugabe in Bulawayo today to discuss the forthcoming presidential election run-off and the campaigns, reliable sources told The Herald last night. The sources said President Mbeki, the Sadc-appointed mediator on Zimbabwe, would fly into the city today.

Cde Mugabe will travel to Bulawayo for the meeting after addressing rallies in Gwanda and Beitbridge.

Sadc mandated the South African leader in March last year to broker dialogue between Zanu-PF and both factions of the opposition MDC.

Following a series of meetings, the two parties jointly sponsored amendments to the Constitution and electoral laws under which harmonised presidential, parliamentary and council elections were held on March 29.

There was no winner in the presidential election, forcing a run-off scheduled for June 27.
