ZIMBABWEANS in the Diaspora are doing great things. They say there are millions of Zimbabweans scattered all over the world. Many of them in Britain, the US, South Africa, etc have established viable businesses that have serviced their own communities and the communities of the countries they live in. The Zimbabwean Guardian will be showcasing some of these businesses.

When did you start the business?

GANYET Zim Products started trading in 2007 when we were selling groceries with Mutomba Supermarkets in Zimbabwe who are still our partners providing us with supplies as and when we run dry. In the same year we went into partnership with TM Supermarkets Zimbabwe Pvt. Ltd.

The partnership went under when the RBZ closed or stopped transmission of money to Zimbabwe. We still maintain a good working relationship with the company and may resuscitate the partnership once there is an improvement in the geopolitical environment.

People kept on asking for bulky commodities so with our experiences with TM we went into an agreement with Jaggers Wholesalers to sell their goods which we are still doing to date. We sell goods ranging from groceries, clothes, farm inputs, equipment all the way to furniture. We also went into an agreement with PGIZ to represent them in the Diaspora and sell their commodities which we still do. The agreement is to sell PG glasses, PG building materials, PG Creative arts paints, J&F building materials, Zimtiles tiles and pavers and Masasa Timbers products.

DST although part of the PGIZ Empire, preferred doing it alone so we do not represent them. We still do work for PGIZ although they are struggling to get cement stocks they are our support pillar on our building materials. We also represent Willdale bricks and are currently having a working relationship with Beta bricks. We then moved into construction sometime last year with a view to assist people in and around the country build houses at affordable prices though our “FLEX BUILD” or put simple, build and pay in instalments.

What is your vision?

In the short run we aim to provide assistance to people in the Diaspora who would like to complete building projects through our “FLEX BUILD”. We enter into agreements with our clients to finish off their projects and they just sit back whilst we do the running around. People will then pay in instalments for every stage they want completed.

In the long run we look forward to offering mortgages to all deserving clients who will then purchase building services and materials from us. We are looking for partners to launch a major bid for the construction of the first motorway in Zimbabwe. The country is vulnerable as we see it that there is an urgent need for some kind of intervention by businessmen in the Diaspora.

We can not all be politician and yet we can only blame ourselves for failing to take advantage of the opening up of economic space by foreign companies and businesses who have disappeared when needed most. There are a number of companies and organisations that have already taken positions in a post democratic Zimbabwe.

Our vision is therefore to alleviate unemployment through the creation of sustainable business ventures that will generate a stream of employment activities from Beitbridge all the way to Chirundu. The Road from Beitbridge to Chirundu could have services and hotels just like we have seen in developed nations instead of the Gochi-Gochi stations like we have dotted all the way like we see today on the same roads.

Partnerships

We believe in togetherness as many hands build a house we have recently set up a Marketing and PR firm in partnership with other people. We aim to provide shelter to the nation we can only do that with others. We want to construct roads and road networks in Zimbabwe which can only be achieved by partnerships.

Future Plans

Our immediate future plans are to consolidate on the construction business and our partnership Marketing and PR. We also intend do a market research in mining and communication technology. We are also in the process of bringing together Zimbabwe business persons in the Diasporas to form a consortium to venture into mining and manufacturing. We are all aware the situation present in Zimbabwe but then that can last.

We are looking into the future with hope.

Everything else being equal Zimbabwe is a prosperous country endowed with lots of minerals some capable of lasting for the next 200 years. The current politics does not distract us as we are determined to seeing the door close with one of our foot inside.
