FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) Copperbelt provincial chairperson Teddy Kangwa has said his party is open to enter into an electoral pact with MMD in the forthcoming presidential by-election.
In an interview in Chingola at the weekend, Kangwa said the MMD should start talking to FDD president Edith Nawakwi, United Liberal Party's Sakwiba Sikota, UNIP's Tilyenji Kaunda or any other party that it can enter into an electoral pact with, so as not to give chance to someone who might be sponsored by plunderers.
"I would like to state here that we are still open to enter into an electoral pact with any other party including the MMD," he said.
FDD, UNIP and UPND in 2006 formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a pact that crumbled after the elections.
Meanwhile, Kangwa said Zambians must remain united and jealously guard the economic successes and achievements scored by the late President Levy Mwanawasa.
"President Mwanawasa set high standards in leadership and this is why it is important that, as Zambians, we elect a candidate to succeed him who is going to ensure that he continues with his legacy. I mean the fight against corruption and abuse of office thereby bringing sanity in the country, rule of law and the general improvement of the economy and lives of people," he said.
Kangwa appealed to the MMD to select a presidential candidate who would unite the party.
