ZAMBIA can only develop economically if its youths are well-prepared academically and spiritually, Zambia’s Ambassador to South Africa Leslie Mbula has said. Speaking when 38 students from Lusaka’s Chalo Trust School paid a courtesy call on him at the Zambia Chancery in Pretoria on Tuesday, Mbula said youths, as future leaders, needed to be hardworking, humble, disciplined and spiritually upright.
“I appeal to you to work hard on your studies and desist from vices. The future of Zambia depends on you and if you mess up your education, then we are doomed as a nation,” he said.
Mbula commended Chalo Trust School for organising the tour, saying such ventures were important in exposing students to the outside world and enabling them to have a broader outlook on life.
He also called on teachers in the country to be exemplary in their work.
“If a teacher smokes or does anything unbecoming, the child will follow what he is doing. We need high quality men and women to lead us in the future and to develop our country.
We don’t eat politics, economic development is the key, and only disciplined, well-educated and God-fearing citizens can bring this about,” said Mbula.
