SOME Copperbelt residents yesterday greeted Vice-President Rupiah Banda's motorcade with the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) symbol as he went to watch the Zambia versus Togo match at Konkola Stadium. Pockets of onlookers gathered in Chingola shortly before Vice-President Banda's motorcade made way to the stadium amid cheers of ubwato, ubwato, ubwato in reference to the boat, a PF symbol.

In Chililabombwe, the momentum increased with more people lining up on the streets flashing both the Patriotic Front and UPND symbols although the former was dominant among people standing on the road leading to the stadium.

The UPND symbol became part of the pre-match frenzy after word went round party leader Hakainde Hichilema was also scheduled to watch the 2010 World Cup qualifying match.

However, Vice-President Banda received a warm welcome immediately he entered Konkola Stadium. The MMD symbol was dominant inside the stadium as the crowd cheered "Boma, Boma, Boma" in reference to the government.

Clad in his Zambia national soccer team jersey number nine, Vice-President Banda went on to greet the players from both national teams shortly before kickoff and returned to his seat in the VIP area.

Earlier, Vice-President Banda visited the Chipolopolo Boys at Nkana East Lodge in Kitwe. After the match, Vice-President Banda left for Chingola where he was expected to spend a night before flying back to Lusaka later today.
