ZAMBIANS should not allow continuity of failure by Rupiah’s government, chief Lukama’s son Sekeli Lubinda has said. And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said once elected as Republican president, his government would build good palaces for chiefs because they deserve better.

In an interview after Hichilema paid a courtesy call on chief Lukama of Shang’ombo district, Lubinda urged Zambians not to be cheated by Vice-President Rupiah Banda that he would continue with late president Levy Mwanawasa’s vision.

Lubinda said even late president Mwanawasa failed to develop Shang’ombo district.
He said since the MMD came into power, Shang’ombo had been neglected in terms of development.

Lubinda said this time around, people of Shang’ombo had vowed not to vote for MMD’s candidate Vice-President Banda because his leadership was a total failure.
He cited problems such as electricity, poor state of schools, roads, lack of clinics and high levels of poverty, which the MMD government had failed to address.

“We feel betrayed by MMD despite giving them our votes since 1991. And so, we don’t understand Rupiah’s slogan of continuity, what continuity? Continuity of failure,” Lubinda asked. “Our MP, Sinjembela member of parliament Mubika Mubika comes here only during campaign time. This time we are planning to chase him because he has failed us and we want to change government.”

Lubinda also advised Hichilema to deliver his promises once elected into office.
“Here we are campaigning for you, but make sure that you fulfill your promises. When you fail, we will de-campaign you and vote you out in 2011,” Lubinda warned.
He also said Vice-President Banda was not the right person to foster Zambian’s development.

On Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata, Lubinda said the party had no support in Western Province.

And another resident Mike Kasanga said it was difficult to do business in Shang’ombo due to poor road infrastructure.

He said although the area had business potential, traders and investors were shying away because the area lacked good roads.

And Hichilema pledged his commitment to rural areas once voted into office this month end.

He also said the UPND government would ensure that all chiefs in the country were built better palaces.

“I will not let you down because we share the same grief. I am a villager, a headman and I understand your problems better than other presidential competitors. As you have correctly observed, Rupiah is not the right person because he has been a failure throughout. You deserve a better president like myself who can fight poverty to the bitter end so that you can feel proud of being Zambians,” said Hichilema.
