Forgive Rupiah for past wrongs, Muteteka urges Zambians

MMD Chisamba member of parliament Moses Muteteka has asked Zambians to forgive Vice-President Rupiah Banda for his past wrongdoings. And Muteteka said it would be foolish for late president Levy Mwanawasa's family to vote for the opposition.

Speaking when village headmen paid a courtesy call on him at his office on Saturday, Muteteka said every human being was capable of making mistakes in life and that it was the more reason there is the word forgiveness.

"Let's go full throttle to campaign for MMD and Rupiah Banda. Ignore what The Post is writing about him. Can they tell the nation how his conduct has been ever since he was appointed Vice-President?" he asked. "They are talking about NAMBOARD and other things that happened a long time ago, but you should know that human beings are not perfect."

And launching the MMD campaign in the constituency at a fairly attended rally later, Muteteka urged president Mwanawasa's family to vote for MMD, saying the late president appointed Vice-President Banda in that office because he knew that the man was intelligent enough to rule the country.

"The Mwanawasa family strongly believes in the policies and principles of MMD and the government, therefore it will be bad for anyone of the family members to reject Mr Rupiah Banda," he said.

Muteteka claimed that president Mwanawasa's family had endorsed Vice-President Banda, who is also acting President, during the forthcoming elections.
"I am here to give directions on behalf of the Mwanawasa family that we are fully behind Mr Rupiah Banda," he said. " Just like we did in 2006 when everybody stood up to vote for the late president Mwanawasa, we should also do the same during the forthcoming elections."

Muteteka charged that Patriotic Front president Michael Sata had exaggerated his reconciliation with president Mwanawasa, saying there was no indication that Sata would take over from president Mwanawasa.

"We have Sata saying I reconciled with president Mwanawasa so people should vote for me, but let me tell you that Sata only went to say thank you and Mwanawasa in reply said 'yes'," he charged.

Muteteka urged Zambians to ignore what The Post was writing in its editorial comments about Vice-President Banda and vote for MMD in the October 30 presidential election.
Muteteka said Zambians needed to have confidence in Vice-President Banda and entrust him with leadership.

"I appeal to Zambians to have faith in MMD presidential candidate Mr Banda and trust him the way president Mwanawasa trusted him," he said.
Muteteka said people should allow the policies and programmes that the MMD had embarked on to continue.
