THE global economic crisis has affected many newspaper companies, World Association of Newspapers (WAN) chief executive officer Timothy Balding has observed.
Announcing the postponement of the 62nd World Newspaper Congress, 16th World Editors Forum and Info Services Expo scheduled for Hyderabad, India, Balding recently stated that the economic crisis has had a very dissuasive effect on the participation in the events which were simply not viable in March.
“I regret to inform you that we have been obliged to postpone our 62nd World Newspaper Congress, 16th World Editors Forum and Info Services Expo until later in the year. The new dates are 30th November to 3rd December,” Balding stated. “We are confident that many newspaper companies will, by necessity, have learnt to live with the crisis over the year and will be more willing to invest again in conferences and travel by end [of] 2009.”
