BRITISH High Commissioner to Zambia Tom Carter has said donor support to the fight against corruption does not in any way undermine the independence of the Judiciary in Zambia.
Commenting on the recent convictions of high profile persons in former president Frederick Chiluba and the late president Levy Mwanawasa's administrations, High Commissioner Carter said the British government supports the Zambian government's efforts to tackle corruption.
He said the recent convictions were an example of Zambia's commitment to the fight against corruption.
The Task Force on Corruption recently secured convictions of people such as former Zambia Air Force (ZAF) commanders Lieutenant General Sande Kayumba and Lieutenant General Christopher Singogo, former Zambia Army commander Lieutenant General Geojago Musengule and former president Frederick Chiluba's wife, Regina among others.
On Nchelenge National Democratic Front (NDF) member of parliament Ben Mwila's accusations that the Task Force on Corruption and some donor countries had hijacked the Zambian judicial system, High Commissioner Carter said the donor community respects the independence of the Judiciary.
High Commissioner Carter said the donor community's support did not in any way undermine the country's judicial processes.
Recently, Mwila said in Parliament that donors through the Task Force on Corruption had hijacked the judicial system and targeted certain individuals they did not like for prosecution.
