As Malawian artists are in search of ways to transform the country’s music business to match other African and world industries, a new recording company that promises preeminent music production ever across Malawi and the rest of the region is set for opening.

The recording company, Black Rhyno Entertainment will specialize in hip-hop, pop and world music, fused with traditional ethnic music, primarily Africa music, according to Malawi’s high-flying rapper Limbani Kalilani, who is popularly known as Tay Grin.

Disclosing this to Nyasa Times, Tay Grin, who is the company President said, “Black Rhyno is a company that prides itself in excellence and believes in being the best at what they do. The artists on Black Rhyno’s roster are the cream of Africa’s crop.”

Grin, who took Malawians by surprise late last week when the track he was featured by Jamaican popular R&B duo Brick & Lace “Bad to Die Bone” started playing on the country’s radios, further said the company’s goal is to work closely with the radio and club DJ’s in Malawi to create a machine to act as platform for the Malawian music artists to be heard around the world.

“We would like to raise the standard of quality of Malawian music by filtering what’s good and what’s bad and creating a competitive edge for artists to strive for excellence,” adds Tay Grin, a Unicef Ambassador who apart from rapping and songwriting, he is also pursuing acting as his career.

He notices that as musicians’ most important allies, DJ’s are the heart beat of the success of Malawian music.

As said by the Black Rhyno Entertainment President, the company intends to build working relationships with Malawian DJ’s to facilitate a music industry in the country.

Meanwhile, the recording company also intends to do workshops to help Malawian artists understand the music business and help them break through on the international market.

Black Rhyno Entertainment also has renowned multitalented US-based producer, songwriter, musician, and artist developer Maj Beatz, who is the company’s vice president and Chief in-house producer.

The new recording company’s upcoming assignments include Tay Grin’s second album, Unity Africa Project and a compilation album of Malawi’s hottest artists.
