KITWE City Council (KCC) public relations manager Francis Wasamunu has disclosed that the council has reported suspected MMD officials for allocating land illegally in Kawama township.

In an interview, Wasamunu who did not know the exact number of officials involved said the officials had sold over 100 plots at between K500,000 and K1,000,000 respectively.

"It's like people have ganged up to enrich themselves and as council, we will no longer allow that," he said.

Wasamunu said the council would ensure prosecution of all those involved in the scam because this was not the first time that they were doing it.

He advised all those that had bought plots from the officials in question to reclaim their money because the local authority would not allow them to build any structures in the affected area.

Wasamunu explained that the council had demarcated about 400 plots in Kawama but the same suspected MMD officials allegedly removed the beacons that council had erected.

"And we would like to appeal to the MMD district and provincial leadership to instill discipline in their erring officials because such are the ones that tarnish their party's name," said Wasamunu.

And police said they had not received any report relating to the illegal allocation of land.

"Police don't deal with land issues; it is the council themselves. I'm not aware about that, I have not received such a report myself," said Kitwe police officer commanding Nelson Phiri.
