KK to attend Zuma’s inauguration

DR Kenneth Kaunda has been invited to attend the inauguration of the fourth President-elect of South Africa Jacob Zuma scheduled for May 9.

According to a statement issued by special assistant to Dr Kaunda for press and public relations Sunday Musonda, Dr Kaunda who turned 85 on Tuesday was in London to attend a dinner hosted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Dr Kaunda was expected to return to Zambia on May 5 in good time to honour the invitation by South Africa's outgoing President Kgalema Motlanthe.

Dr Kaunda on Wednesday left London for Tehran, Iran for a five-day visit under the auspices of the International Islamic Peace Foundation, an organisation whose main activity was to promote international peace and understanding around the world.

Dr Kaunda, who was invited through the director of the Islamic Centre of Zambia Muhammad Assadi Movahed, was scheduled to pay a courtesy call on supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, among other activities.

He was also scheduled to deliver a lecture on peace at the University of Tehran and the Ministry of Foreign affairs Institute of Research.

Dr Kaunda is also expected to visit Isfhan city, which was referred to as a city of Islamic civilisation in Iran.
