THE National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has disbursed over K230 billion for road projects and related activities for the period January to March 2009.
The funding was spent throughout the country and it was from donors, the road fund and government project specific funding.
Releasing the disbursement schedule yesterday, NRFA spokesperson Alphonsius Hamachila said the total amount disbursed from the road fund and government funding during the first quarter of 2009 amounted to K185 billion while over K21 billion was disbursed under road projects being funded by the European Union.
He said disbursements from the World Bank funded projects amounted to K16 billion with K4 billion being disbursed under DANIDA funded projects.
"Some of the major disbursements from the road and government projects include the K15 billion for the periodic maintenance of the Chipata-Lundazi road and the construction of bridge and approach roads at Matumbo river crossing in the Eastern Province," Hamachila said.
"Further, K14 billion was disbursed for the supply of Bailey bridge components for the Mongu-Kalabo road in Western Province and for the emergency repair of the Petauke-Chilongozi road including a portion of Ukwimi-Sonja road in Eastern Province respectively."
He said the NRFA also spent K4 billion on the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) activities.
"The NRFA will continue working with and through key players and stakeholders in ensuring a quality road network throughout the country by providing adequate financial resources for developing, maintaining, monitoring and evaluation of road infrastructure and road transport services," said Hamachila.
