(TALKZIMBABWE) Zimbabwe suffers dearth of journalism

Zimbabwe suffers dearth of journalism

DEAR EDITOR - I feel sorry for some individuals who either work for foreign based news organisations reporting on Zimbabwe, or are stuck behind a computer in the Diaspora writing lies about Zimbabwe and sometimes blatantly misrepresenting facts.

I especially feel sorry for those journalists who have to "sing for their supper". They wake up everyday looking for "bad stories" from Zimbabwe, rather than just stories, yet claim to be professionals in their field.

There are a number of Zimbabwean so-called journalists and professors of journalism who put this profession into disrepute by their narrow-mindedness and their inability to report the truth; and by-the-way the truth is not necessarily positive.

Zimbabwean journalists, especially unaccredited and unvetted ones from the Diaspora, have been so instrumental in destroying their country.

The country simply has some of the most inexperienced and fly-by-night journalists who have destroyed the image of the country, and their own along the way.

There are also individuals who spend years, literally, on the computer concocting lies about Zimbabwe. Some of them are former professionals who now have found themselves languishing in the Diaspora. They hope to change the situation in Zimbabwe by opening up propaganda websites.

What they do not realise is that they are leaving a bad trail as they proceed and one day will have to integrate with the people they are discrediting today.

Zimbabweans should simply wake up and smell the coffee.
