Written by Lemmy Likando in Siavonga

A Kapenta and crocodile farmer has appeared in the Siavonga magistrates’ court for assaulting a 7-year-old boy. Luis Jordan 54, of Plot No. 4512M Siavonga, was charged with one count of assaulting a child contrary to section 248 sub section 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Jordan is alleged to have assaulted the boy on August 30, 2009.

Jordan pleaded not guilty to the offence and the case has been adjourned to September 30 for mention and October 13 for trial.

Jordan, who was arrested on Saturday and detained in custody at Siavonga police station for a night was released on a K2 million police bond.

Meanwhile, scores of residents from Siavonga's fishing camp area protested at district commissioner Emily Striedl's office over the move by Jordan to erect a fence to block them accessing water in Lake Kariba.

The residents, who depend on drawing their water from the lake, trekked to Striedl’s office in order to seek an audience with her over the blocking and erection of a wire fence by the lake.

Jordan claims that the area is his plot.
