WORKS and supply minister Mike Mulongoti has asked former defence minister George Mpombo to stop tempting fate by continually attacking President Rupiah Banda.

But Kafulafuta member of parliament Mpombo said Mulongoti is one of the leaders that should go because he had low capacity and integrity to continue serving as a leader.

Reacting to Mpombo's statement that MMD was slowly drifting into a third term syndrome because of President Banda's personal ego, Mulongoti, who is also acting MMD spokesperson, asked Mpombo to stop attacking the President.

He said Mpombo had always been bitter since the last time he "crushed" him for the position of member of parliament .

"He [Mpombo] is pushing his luck too far. You don't attack a man who is not attacking you. He is tempting fate. He is nothing, there is no reason why we should even waste time talking about him," Mulongoti said. "He is an ingraciate, someone who is not grateful. I defeated him."

MMD deputy national secretary Jeff Kaande said the party would deal with Mpombo's attacks on the President administratively and not through the press.

However, Kaande had earlier warned through the press that he would discipline Mpombo and his Chilanga counterpart Ng'andu Magande.

But earlier in an interview, Mpombo had said Mulongoti was a spent force and should be removed from his position of chairperson for elections at the convention.

"He's got low capacity and integrity to continue as chairman of elections. You remember last time in the middle, towards the end [of last year's presidential election campaigns], the party removed him as campaign manager because of poor strategy, immature statements, and totally you know, very, very immature behaviour," said Mpombo. "He is a political comedian, Mr Mulongoti."

Mpombo said he would continue with his demands for the convention because Mulongoti and his colleagues could not be allowed to manipulate the party's constitution

Recently, Mpombo said the MMD was drifting into a third term syndrome because of President Banda's personal ego of funding the postponement of the convention.
