KASAMA Mayor Fidelis Chishoma has warned that President Rupiah Banda should not be surprised if he receives a hostile reception in Kasama for his bad leadership.

Speaking ahead of President Rupiah Banda's visit to Kasama to drum up support for MMD Kasama-Central parliamentary candidate Burton Mugala, Chishoma said Kasama residents were not happy with the manner President Banda was governing the country, especially his conduct over the acquittal of former president Frederick Chiluba.

He said Kasama residents recently booed Chiluba when he passed through the town centre for the Ukusefya Pangwena traditional ceremony. Mayor Chishomwa warned that President Banda should expect anything.

"It's [booing] automatic, people can do what they wish. If I am a bad leader, I should be expecting a bad reception," mayor Chishomwa said. "We are very surprised to see the acquittal of Chiluba and stopping the appeal. Majority of the people of Kasama are very upset. There are very few people benefiting from Mr Banda and his leadership."

Chishomwa said he would not welcome President Banda to Kasama because he had failed the country and because he was going for political campaigns and not civic duties.

"He has totally failed. There is no democracy in the country because a President cannot be concentrating on politics minus development," said mayor Chishomwa. "Last time in the Levy Mwanawasa government they promised that Kasama Airport would be turned into an international airport but they diverted that to Mbala. If you go out there, there is no single health post in my ward."
